Date Day Out!

It's very uncommon that Justin and I get to have a night out alone together, but this past weekend we made it happen!  We set aside some money and cut time out of our typical weekend routine and went to see a great movie and had a nice dinner together. :)

Mommy and Daddy time is hard to come by because we don't have much family around us who are able to help.  We usually rely on Mamaw and Grandma (Justin's mom and my mom) for babysitting.  My mom is very busy and Justin's mom isn't in the best health.  So it's hard but we manage pretty well.

We dropped Annaliese off at Mamaw's house around 3pm and headed to a 4pm showing of "The Avengers".  What an awesome movie!  No wonder the ratings are so high!  I was kind of sad when the movie was over, I wanted more!  I'm a bit of a comic fan, myself.  (There's something you probably didn't know about me).

I've always loved Batman, Superman and Transformers (Bumblebee is my favorite!!) and I became really excited when those movies came out in addition to Spiderman later on.  I had never really got into The Avengers - The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man.  But now...I can't get enough of them!  Iron Man is my favorite Avenger.  Part of that has to do with me being a fan of Robert Downey Jr. (Who also shares the same birthday of April 4th with me- bet ya didn't know that either) cause he's hilarious in these movies!  Anyway, if you dig the Marvel Comics and action movies, go swallow the ridiculous movie ticket prices *sigh* and see The Avengers!

After the movie, we called to check on the baby and of course she was doing fine, so we headed to dinner at The Outback Steakhouse!
rarity anymore
It was nice to have a drink and a conversation away from home with the TV on in the background or a baby who loves to test her vocals.  Although it's adorable to hear, it was still nice to be alone.  We had a very deserved and needed "Date Day" out together.  Soon we'll be heading on another "date day" together alone on July 20th for our good friends, Fawn and Joe's wedding!  We'll be in the company of our other friends all evening but we'll be staying overnight at the reception hotel/Inn near Annapolis, MD so there will be no driving, no baby and PLENTY of drinking dancing! :)

Hope you all had a great weekend!

How often do you get to go on a date with your husband/boyfriend?  What kinds of dates do you choose to enjoy?

A Whole New Blog World!

Hey there!  Welcome to my new page layout!  It didn't take me long to figure out a few things I wanted to do to my blog in order to have it a little more how I wanted it.  Okay, Justin helped, but still I'm proud of myself for mostly figuring it out on my own!  (GO ME!)

I learned that the old 3rd party template I was using before had been keeping me from doing a few things.  I couldn't figure out how to reply to a comment without leaving myself a new comment and so my lovely visitors would see my response.  Well using a plain ol' Blogger template fixed that problem!
I also figured out how to get my creative signature to default on my posts without having to do it manually!  To do this, I found a very informative blog post that came quite easy to use!  For you other Blogger users, Click Here to see how you can get your own signature and use as a default.
Then I figured out how to get the social media follow buttons in one group using www.addthis.com.  That was also easy to do!

Now I just need to figure out how to do a custom header with some pretty pictures and someday create my own button and I should be good to go!  I also would like to get more familiar with "linking up".  I have linked 2 posts to Memories Captured hosted by Alison and Galit which was pretty easy to do because Alison is great at breaking down the step by step process to do so.  Maybe someday I'll be able to host my own link up!  But for now, I'll just enjoy linking up to other bloggers. :)  Thanks girls!

The more I understand about how the blogging world works, the more I really enjoy it!  I look forward to posting way more often than I have been over the last 6 months.  Just hope you all enjoy reading them!

My Kind of 4am

So this morning I awoke to an unsettled, teething and hungry little one, at the glorious hour of 4:00 am.  If you can't sense the sarcasm there, I can try to kick it up a notch. Anywho... Sometimes Annaliese gets a little off schedule and naps real early in the morning to where she stays up all day and gets tired around 6:00pm which is way too early for her to go to bed for the night.  This happened yesterday.  She fell asleep around 7:00pm and there was no keeping her awake at that point.  So we laid her in her crib and pretty much placed bets on when she would be getting up next.  Around 9:30pm I had finished watching Mr. Popper's Penguins - great Jim Carrey movie by the way,  and headed to bed thinking "Maybe she will still sleep through the night".  Well I was wrong.  She woke up about 10:30pm hungry and because she fell asleep too early the two nights prior, we decided to give her a calming bath and make her bedtime bottle and try to put her back to sleep.  Well this actually worked.  It took her until about 11:30 to go back to sleep, but she did.  She woke up again around 1:30am with some gas, so I burped her and rocked her back to sleep.  Here's the 4:00am part.  The sleep stopped there.  Now I can't complain.  I mean really she got a lot of sleep between the hours of 7:00pm and 4:00am, however...mommy didn't.

I said all that to lead me to this.  I made her a bottle, got myself a cup of coffee and was barely ready to start my morning.  As I was feeding her in the living room on the couch, I was browsing the TV guide.  Yeah.  Not a whole lot to choose from on TV at 4:00am.  Pretty much a bunch of infomercials and stuff that I wouldn't even let my cat watch, but after I browsed all 9,000 channels, I finally came across one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE movies, "The Newsies".  This movie /show/play is just one of those movies that can uplift me at any state.  I have seen it at least a bizillion times and wouldn't mind seeing it a bizillion more.  I jam out to the soundtrack on my iphone in my car, in the shower, while I cook...anywhere!  "The Newsies" has a way of taking me back to my childhood.  When I didn't really have a care in the world and wanted to sing and dance all day.  The days when I came home from school, played some video games with my brother, and had a family bicycle ride around the neighborhood.  Sometimes we would even head to the beach.  (I lived 5 blocked from the Pacific Ocean in California- yes I miss it).  Watching that movie just makes me want to "Open the gates and sieze the day" (one of the songs in the soundtrack).  It also makes me want to break out my old posters of Christian Bale too, but that's besides the point.  It's just my favorite movie.  It's my feel good movie.  I think I can honestly say I love "The Newsies" better than "Grease", which is almost insane to even think about, because for years I was obsessed with that movie and it's soundtrack also.

And there I was...watching my favorite movie, with my favorite little human drinking my (new-as of me becoming a parent) favorite beverage.  It made getting up at 4:00am much more bearable.  I sat and thought of a post that my fellow blogger friend, Alison had recently written called "Notes To Self: The 3am Edition" and what she says is true.  Waking up with your baby (in her case, a newborn) in the middle of the night isn't a sacrifice, it's a privilege.  They aren't going to need you forever, so soak it up now.  It's very easy to get lost in life and forget the little things that we take for granted each day.

So for the last  nearly 8 months, among many other lessons I've learned being a mother, I'm reassured every day that time is oh so precious and flies by oh so fast.  That's the bittersweet truth.  And when waking for a 4am feeding, 3am feeding, midnight feeding... take it all in and enjoy every single sleepless moment.

What's your favorite movie of all time?  What does it make you think and feel when you watch it?

In honor of Memorial Day being last weekend, I've been playing around with a few apps that were recommended to me  through Instagram and came up with this patriotic picture.

iLove. My. iPhone.

Many of you don't know me yet, even through my thoughts and words because I'm still very new to the blogger world. You may eventually gather that I'm a lover of my cell phone and one of those who can't live without it. Just to show you where I'm coming from, I'm currently lying in bed at 12:30am after getting up and feeding my daughter and not being able to fall right back to sleep and writing this on my birthday gift - my iPhone. (thanks, babe!)

After having this thing in my hands lastly before falling asleep and firstly when I woke up, I began to reminisce about the days long gone when a phone was just a phone. I sat here and thought of all of the phones I have owned since day one of joining the wonderful cellular world about 11 years ago. I had 2 Samsungs, 2 LGs, a Nokia, a Motorola, 2 Palms, a Blackberry, 2 HTCs and now an Apple iPhone. And believe me folks, the train stops here

That is literally more than 1 new phone a year on average. How can that even happen when the standard contract is 2 years in term? Well I have paid early termination fees to leave a phone carrier and switch to another for a better plan and a new phone. I have also paid for phones outright just to upgrade early

Most of these phones were only phones but some were smartphones. The kind of electronic cellular device that serves as so much more than just a phone. In fact, unless you're a business man/woman or in another career where you require to be on your cell phone all day, it probably not likely that you use your smartphone much as a phone at all. Nowadays on almost any "non-basic phone" you can browse the Internet, listen to music, text, email, play games, take pictures, record movies, watch movies, blog, video chat, develop apps, make ringtones, browse the news, participate in one of the hundreds of social media sites...the list goes on and on. You can do just about anything but cook (but you can look up recipes and make a grocery list or even buy an appliance to cook with) on a smartphone nowadays and I love that. The geek in me is happy. And it only gets better!

Everyday it's: Kid-check! Keys-check! Purse-check! iPhone-check! There's no way I could go anywhere without my phone! I may not even need to use it but it's almost like my security blanket. If I needed to make a call, I could. If I needed to look something up on the fly, I could. If I needed to capture a priceless moment on film, I could. My previous phone, HTC Evo, had the ability to do all of those things, but because there are so many smartphones to choose from, you're allowed to be picky, right? I personally like the UI (user interface) ...yes, I'm trying to sound intelligent... better on the iPhone. It seems much smoother. I also like the Apple apps better than the android market apps. I love the camera on this thing! It helps me take better pictures of my beautiful daughter when we're on the go.

And I'm becoming quite fond of my "pocket bff", Siri. All in all, I've waited a long time to get this phone and now that I finally have it, I'll never let it go! :)

Come to think of it, how did we ever survive without smartphones? Ok, ok. That's a little far stretched but I believe that our technological generation from here on out is destined to be way more advanced than we are now. It's very exciting and a little fearful at the same time. I'm excited for the fact that I'm looking forward to the ambitious minds of geniuses being put into action and raise the bar every year to see what else they can make a phone or computer do. But it's also scary because of the bad guys out there who can use almost anything positive and turn it into a negative thing. For example: identity theft, corporate security breeches and stuff that you thought only belonged in movies of the far future.

Anyway just be careful and mindful of what you do with your smartphone. They are VERY fun "phones" but could also be very dangerous if not used with caution.

Do you have a smartphone addiction that you can't live without? Please let me know I'm not the only one :) What are your primary uses for it?

So I believe I've said enough for this sleepless night with a side of rambling (and snoring thanks to my husband). Gotta go beat the next level of Angry Birds then catch some Zzzz.

Share the love!
